Local Entrepreneurs Thrive: Badagry’s Fish Farming Industry Attracts International Buyers

Badagry’s thriving aquaculture sector is making waves on the global stage as international buyers are now sourcing premium catfish and tilapia from local farms in the region. Known for its extensive coastline and lagoon networks, Badagry has long been a hub for fishing, but recent investments in modern fish farming techniques have taken the industry to new heights.

“We are now producing export-quality fish right here in Badagry. Our farms use sustainable practices that meet international standards,” said the head of the Badagry Fish Farmers Cooperative. The cooperative recently secured export deals with buyers in Ghana, Togo, and as far as Europe.

The Lagos State Agricultural Development Authority has pledged support through training programs and equipment subsidies, helping local farmers scale their operations. The sector now employs thousands of youths and is being hailed as a model for rural economic development in Lagos State.

Visitors to Rosh Beach Resort can enjoy some of the freshest locally caught seafood, sourced directly from these Badagry farms.
